0. First make a backup copy of the DEMO diskette. Place the demo diskette in
drive "A" and an blan formatted diskette in drive "B". Then type "A:" and a
carrige return. Then type "COPY *.* B:". Now remove the diskette in drive
"B" and place a "scratch diskette" in drive "B". (see your system manuals
for more details in making a "backup diskette")
1. To start the program, insert the program diskette in the "A" disk drive and
a blank or "scratch" disk in the "B" disk drive Then type "A:" and a
carrige return. Then type "SCORE" and another carrige return.
2. The first menu that appears will ask you whether you would like to start a
new scoring session, read an old session from a diskette, store the current
session to diskette or continue with the current session. The current
diskette contains a sample session that can be used later called "TESTDATA".
For now type "S" to start a new session.
3. The next menu that appears will ask for the specific data for each scoring
session. There are a maximum of five separate scoring sessions that may be
kept simultaneously. For the first example enter any number of sessions
greater than two and less than six. FOR THIS AND ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ENTRIES
AN INVALID NUMBER WILL BE REJECTED AND THE CURSOR WILL NOT MOVE UNTIL VALID
DATA IS ENTERED. Then for each session enter different data for the number of
tables, number of rounds, type of movement ("H" for Howell of "M" for
Mitchell), etc. If a Mitchell movement is selected for an even number of
tables you will have to select between a SKIP ROUND ("S") session and a
RELAY/BYSTAND ("R") session.
4. At the bottom of the screen is always a selection menu for you to choose the
program function you would like. For example from the current menu you may
enter the names if this is a new session you are starting, print out the
current scores if this is an old session or go start entering data in either
an old or new session. Please press the "F7" to enter names for the current
session.
5. Enter some names if you like in this menu. By the status line at the bottom
you may either press "F9" to enter names for the other direction (ie, switch
between N/S and E/W) or enter names in the same direction for another session
by pressing "F5" to go one session "lower" or "F6" to go one session
"higher". Please experiment with all these functions to become familiar with
how they move you around within the program.
6. When you are through entering names press the "ESC" key. This display will
allow you to enter three lines of comments or titles that will be printed
on each page of the printed results. You can also select the point rating
that your bridge club is entitled to and the "class" of the game to
determine the ACBL masterpoints that can be awarded. Again you can press
"F5" or "F6" to enter titles for all the current active sessions.
7. Now press "F10" and you may actually start entering the raw bridge scores.
Again the bottom status lines tell you that you may switch between the
various sections by using the "F5" and "F6" function keys or you may use
the "F9" key to switch between the N/S and E/W directions.
8. Currently the screen shows the scores for the N/S or E/W direction with
the pair numbers listed along the left side of the screen and the hand
numbers "1" thur "10" listed across the top of the screen. In the upper
right hand of the screen you will see "Round 1". And the current board and
pair numbers that should be play in those boards will be highlited.
9. If you would like to change the ROUND NUMBER enter either the "HOME" key or
the "END" key. This will take the cursor up to the round number section of
the screen and changing this number will change the hand number and pair
number data regions that are highlited. For any given round number the
cursor will move allowing you to enter data only for that round. As the
bridge scores are entered for either the N/S or E/W pairs, the negative
scores are enter for their opponents in the other direction (the opponents
are always shown just above the status lines at the bottom of the screen).
BY ENTERING ROUND NUMBER 0 THE CURSOR WILL BE ALLOWED TO MOVE OVER ANY PART
OF THE SCREEN SO THAT CORRECTIONS MAY BE MADE TO PREVIOUSLY ENTERED SCORES.
Using the ROUND NUMBER 0 will also allow you to enter the scores from the
traveling slips with each board. For round number 0 the cursor will move
down the column for each board allowing you to enter all the N/S partners
scores in succession for each board one at a time.
10.If you would like to display different hand numbers use the "F3" and "F4"
keys to "PAGE RIGHT" (bring in the higher number boards off the right hand
side of the screen) or "PAGE LEFT" (bring in the lower number boards off the
left hand side of the screen). When you are entering scores and you reach
either the right or left extremes of the screen, one half a screen (5 boards)
will automatically page into the screen.
11.To view the individual hand match points or the overall matchpoints at any
time within the scoring session simply press the "F1" or "F2" function
keys.

Special Functions
-----------------
Editing Scoresheet - To make changes to any scores on the scoresheet, enter a
------------------ Round Number = 0. This will allow you to move thr cursor
and make changes anywhere on the scoresheet that a VALID
match is played. If the cursor is positioned on a
hand/pair-number combination that is not a valid match
for the number of tables and table rotation selected, no
entered scores will be accepted.
Erasing Scores - If an already entered raw score needs to be erased, enter
-------------- a RAW SCORE = -1. This will erase the score for that
match on both the East/West and the North/South
scoresheets.
Average, Average Minus and Average Plus scores - Enter a RAW SCORE value of
------- ------------- ------------
AVE or just A to get an average score for both the E/W
and N/S opponents. To get an Average Plus/Average Minus
for one opponent and the opposite score for the other
opponent enter either AVE-, A-, AVE+ or A+. To get an
Average Plus or Average Minus for both opponents enter
either AVE++, A++, AVE-- or A-- as necessary.
Beginning a New Scoring Session
-------------------------------
To start the program, place the program disk in the "A" drive of the computer
and type "A:SCORE". From the "Main Menu" enter the 'S' key to begin a new
scoring session. Every time you start a new scoring session you will be asked
for a "File Name". The file name is used to save any data you will enter for
long term storage.
After you enter a disk "File Name" you will be presented with a new menu. The
"Bridge Scoring Data" menu will ask you to enter the number of sections you
would like like to score and the necessary data for each section like the
number of tables and table movement.
After you enter the necessary information on the "Bridge Scoring Data" menu
you are ready to start entering the raw bridge scores. But first you may want
to enter the names of the contestants for both the N/S and E/W pairs in each
section. To enter the contestants names press the F7 function key or to go
ahead and start entering the raw bridge scores press the F10 function key.
From here on thru the rest of the program the options (program functions) that
are available to you will be displayed along the bottom two lines of the
screen. Any invalid keys you enter will be ignored. If you enter any invalid
numbers the computer may "beep" at you to warn you and you will not be able to
continue until you have entered a valid number.
The program is designed to be friendly. It will not let you make a mistake
entering invalid data. However the limits of certain values allowed in the
program are not usually spelled out but are more governed by the 'assumed'
rules of the game. For example the number of tables for each section must be
between 3 and 19 except for a Howell movement where the number of tables must
be between 3 and 7. These numbers are never stated in the program but any
number outside of these limits will be ignored. Please be patient if the
program 'beeps' at you and try to understand both the program and this
documentation still need a little more 'finishing work' to make it pretty.
Good Luck ! I hope you enjoy the speed and flexability at you control.
Entering the Raw Scoring Data
-----------------------------
The raw scoring data may be entered in one of two ways.
1. At the end of each round
You may collect scoring slips at the end of each round and enter the raw
scores for each section (a maximum of 5 sections may be scored with a
single computer at one time) by entering the round number for each round
just before entering the raw scores.
2. From the traveling slips at the end of the complete session
If you are only scoring one or two sections you may wait until the end of
the session and enter all the scores from the "traveling" score sheets for
each board. If you decide to enter all the scores at one time from the
traveling slips, just enter the "Round Numbers" as 0 (zero) and the cursor
will allow you to enter the scores for the individual tables for each N/S
pair just as you would read them off of the traveling slips.
Both methods show you the pair number and hand number as each score is entered
as well as showing you the opponents pair number and round number where they
should have played at the bottom of the screen.
Any individual scores may be replaced be typing the new scores over the old.
Scores may be erased my typing "-1" over the old scores. By typing A+ of A-
the current team will receive and AVE PLUS or AVE MINUS score and their
opponents will receive the opposite score (either AVE MINUS or AVE PLUS). By
entering A++ or A-- both opponents will receive the same AVE PLUS or AVE MINUS
score.
At any time you may type F1 or F2 to get the current matchpoint scores or
standings of the tournament. Your may also type F8 to get a current print of
the standings or matchpoints of the tournament at any time.
